Born in Berlin, Theatre School in Essen. One of
the few Germans who is also a star in the USA. Lives in Los Angeles and
enjoys coming back home for interesting projects. Known to audiences from
numerous films (The Da Vinci Code, The English Patient, Die verlohrene
Ehre der Katharina Blum, Beverly Hills Cop II etc.), but particularly
in the role of the U-Boot captain in Wolfgang Petersen’s ”Das
Boot“. Winner of the German and Bavarian Film Award as well as ”The
Golden Camera“.

partner for a while, mother of Nina Hagen.

Lübeck. TV heavyweight holding down substantial roles(Tatort, Landarzt, Der Alte etc.). Less well-known nowadays are his demanding roles in films like "Eisenhans" or "Verlorenes Leben" for which he received the Silver Bear and German Film Awards.
