In this region, with its
25% unemployment and rural depopulation, dreams and aspirations are
sky-high too. Unfortunately they don’t extend across the borders.
The opportunities for co-operation, seen by many as the only hope
for the region, are hardly explored. As in the film, everyone dreams
their own dream, hoping for a miracle from above. But the ”terra
incognita” we encountered is extremely inaccessible for miracles.
The romantic half-timbered overkill of the German Mittelgebirg villages
is still completely unknown even to the most |
enthusiastic of Japanese
tourists. The people from the region know this. For just that reason
they proved highly committed to the project, which they hoped would
portray their world: cooks, musicians, amateur actors and team members
from all three countries worked together for a film that is a plea
for exactly this sense of community. For two months in a wintry late
Autumn it was a wonderful world. And even if it wasn’t, at least
we all shared the sweat and the local schnapps! |
